Interested in Hosting an Exam?

Hosting a Certified Employment Support Professional™ (CESP) Exam

Hosting an examination is a great way to bring test-takers together in one space, or to bring awareness to the credential! This opportunity is now available. If you want to host an exam, read the criteria below then reach out to the CESP at cesp@apse.org

Testing Opportunities: Select a Hosted Exam when you apply.

*We will send you the testing details and confirmation once you are approved for CESP Exam Eligibility at APSE Apply. You will pay the full $199 when you submit. Please allow up to one week for eligibility review before a hosted exam.

Host Responsibilities:

  1. Designate one person from the hosting location as the “CESP Exam Hosting Location Liaison” to serve as the primary point of contact for all communication with APSE
  2. Find and secure space for testing: the most important thing is to provide a consistent experience for test-takers. Recommended spaces include conference rooms at provider agencies/colleges/computer labs, etc. Spaces should include (at a minimum!):
  • Meet ADA guidelines - accessibility, ramps, elevators, width, bathrooms on the same level
  • Following state and CDC guidelines
  • Adequate parking, provide directions for arriving (road/public transit, building check-in if applicable).
  • Follow all recommended local health guidelines (sanitation, masking, etc as required)
  • Consider having backup technology (2-3 laptops, etc) available to test-takers
  • Room set-up considerations:
    • Access to temperature controls
    • Be in a quieter space, free from distractions as much as possible
    • Internet Minimum Requirements - Not sharing with others/ bandwidth capable to host we suggest direct plug-in to the internet
    • Electrical plug-ins for each computer
    • A separate check-in area/room that is Proctor monitored and/or locked (for coats/bags/etc for test-takers)
    • 3-6 feet of distance between candidates
    • Tables lining the walls is a great idea - easier to proctor
  • 3. Secure examination proctor(s) at a ratio of 2 proctors to the first 25 candidates and then 1 proctor to every additional 15 candidates after that. Each proctor must meet the requirements below. Please make sure the 2 minimum proctors come from different organizations. Proctors help facilitate a pleasant test-taking experience while ensuring the integrity of the exam.

    4. Follow all security protocols to ensure the examination is administered with the utmost protection

    5. Marketing and promotion of the CESP Exam being administered at the hosting location.

    6. In coordination with APSE, provide for any approved special accommodations. If a test-taker requires accommodations that can’t be met during the hosted exam, they may schedule and take the exam through a Kryterion testing center or online proctored.

Examples of Accommodations:

  • Additional Time (APSE coordinates, space must be able to accommodate this)
  • Assistive Listening Device (candidate brings their own AT)
  • Screen reader (candidate brings their own AT)
  • Screen magnification (candidate brings their own AT)
  • Service Animal
  • Reader
    • We would work with you to find additional proctors to accommodate this. Separate space would be required for this.
  • Sign Language Interpreter for check-in and out with the candidate
    • APSE pays for this, although if you can secure a volunteer Proctor who also is certified in ASL they can serve in a dual role.

APSE is responsible for the following:

  • Provide/assist with marketing materials to assure professional branded look and accuracy of the content
  • Provide online registration for the exam
  • Review and process exam applications
  • Collect exam payment
  • Notify candidates that their application has been processed and inform candidates of exam day details including a contact name and phone number of the CESP Exam Hosting Location Liaison
  • Train proctors
  • Provide a roster of exam candidates to the designated CESP Exam Hosting Location Liaison
  • Releasing of scores - The host and APSE can choose based on the event happening, such as being released all at the same time (we can choose a time to up to 3 days after) or individuals can receive scores immediately upon finishing the examination.
  • Provide certificates to passing candidates within 2 weeks following the exam results

Proctor Requirements

Must meet all of the following:

  1. Not be a direct supervisor, report, or family member of any test taker.
  2. Hold the CESP certification currently (preferred). Check status here: https://directory.credential.net/apse
  3. All proctors sign an electronic Proctor Agreement Form agreeing not to sit for the CESP exam they are proctoring for a minimum of one (1) year from the exam date.
  4. Watch a training video (approximately 15 minutes) and pass the quiz.

Lessons Learned

In the event of cancellation, contact APSE and we’ll guide you through.
Be reasonable about the weather, COVID precautions…  and cancel at least 1-2 days ahead of time. The exam can be rescheduled easily! Both Host and APSE will be responsible for helping communicate.

Weather and life happen! Plan ahead!
If a proctor is driving in from out of town, they must arrive at the host city location at least the night before for a morning exam.

Be kind to test-takers and they should be kind back to you. In all situations, explain things calmly, and don’t hesitate to reach out to the APSE team!

If anything comes up, we’ll want to document it. Send an email to cesp@apse.org and we can ask for what we need.
